Wild weather no match for great teamwork
Lead Travel Coordinator Nikki MacDonald helmed a steady ship in the Travel Team as winter weather raged at the end of June and again in early July. While skiers and snowboarders prepared for fun, the Travel Team prepped for battle…with an alpine winter weather pattern!
Heavy snow on Wednesday, June 25, paired with forecast temperatures of -6C until mid-morning on Thursday, meant road conditions might threaten R&R departures for about 500 Snowy 2.0 workers.
The travel team called in Mick Courtney, Traffic and Transport Manager, whose team liaised with Transport NSW regarding snow clearing and de-icing efforts. The Bussing Team also stepped into the breach and delayed some departures while the travel team rescheduled flights and kept travellers informed.
Once it was determined travel was safe, pilot vehicles guided the busses at optimal safe speed. Bus drivers kept a 500 metre following distance and authorised 4WD light vehicles tailed the great convoy.
As always, safety was the priority. This was achieved.
Another snow storm on Thursday 11 July similarly impacted our R&R departures, and the operational teams swung into action again to ensure everyone safely reached their destinations.
General Services Manager Ant Treloar said everyone involved set a brilliant example of our core project values of CARE, TOGETHER and TEAMWORK.
Echoed by Deputy Director Kevin Dunning and People and Culture Director Donna Watson (a passenger on the day), Ant commended those involved.
“You all conducted yourselves and facilitated updates to the workforce with the delayed departure times and reasons in the most professional and calm manner,” Ant said.
“What a fantastic reflection of the great professional team that General Services are, so proud to see the effectiveness of the values in place.
“Consider yourselves appreciated!”
Hear, hear, Ant. Thanks to everyone.
