Outlanders Dominate Local Competition
A team of workers from Future Gen and some local mates have joined the Cooma Football Club and our ‘Outlanders’ – in their red & white stripes – are on top of their game in the six-a-side football (soccer) competition.
The Cooma Sixes competition is played on a smaller field with smaller goals to ensure players get more touches of the ball and a lot more action.
The team name ‘Outlanders’ comes from all the different nationalities represented in the team: Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Italy, Australia and Serbia. The Outlanders have won 12 matches, had one draw and two losses.
“We didn’t make any training, we just show up every Wednesday after work and do our best, often against more trained and younger teams, but our experience was enough to do well,” team player Marco Succi said.
“It’s been nice getting to know more people from the town, sometimes we meet them around and now we recognise each other. It’s also been fun for our families and kids who followed us through this journey, and the chance to spend some good time together outside work,” Marco added.
Team captain, Francisco Alvarado, has enjoyed the Wednesday night comp, staying fit and playing with friends.
